Anonymized cooperation case

Pocket gimbal camera.
Three-layer material protection.

A public application example that combines circuit-board protection, weather-resistant exterior protection and staged optical-module fixation in one verification route.

5-PAGE APPLICATION SHEETCAMERA ASSEMBLYVERSION 1.0

Case overview

Start from the failure modes of the complete device.

The compact camera integrates optics, motors, a main board, a rotating screen, a battery and flexible interconnects. Its material system must control optical-axis drift, electronic corrosion, water ingress, cosmetic aging, vibration and repeated start-stop loads without materially increasing device volume.

The case therefore separates the assembly into three controlled zones, each with its own material route, forbidden areas and validation criteria.

Three application zones

Different risks need different chemistry.

The solution is organized by location and failure mode instead of applying one material across the entire device.

01 · CIRCUIT PROTECTION

Main-board conformal protection

Thin-film coverage around the PCB and soldered areas, with selective reinforcement near high-stress joints, cable roots and connectors.

02 · WEATHER RESISTANCE

Exterior and seam protection

Hydrophobic protection for non-optical surfaces, lens surroundings and housing seams, while keeping optical windows and active lens surfaces clear.

03 · PRECISION FIXATION

Optical module fixation

Active-alignment pre-fixation followed by secondary cure or structural reinforcement to control shrinkage, optical-axis drift and long-term stability.

Material families considered: conformal coatings and silicone reinforcement; hydrophobic weather-resistant coatings; UV epoxy, UV adhesive and structural epoxy routes for precision positioning and reinforcement.

Suggested validation

Turn the material proposal into a device-level decision.

Screening conditions are proposal-stage guidance. Final limits should be jointly confirmed against the complete-device target and the customer's material specifications.

01

High temperature and humidity

Inspect insulation, corrosion, foaming, delamination, lens contamination, function and optical-axis drift.

02

Thermal cycling

Check bond-line cracking, housing seams, FPC stress, MTF and return-position accuracy.

03

UV and weathering

Track yellowing, gloss, powdering, hydrophobicity, adhesion and appearance.

04

Rain and dust

Evaluate water ingress at seams, buttons and the bottom cover, lens fogging and complete-device function.

05

Vibration and drop

Observe module looseness, gimbal noise, optical-axis or focus change, and solder-joint failure.

06

Optical cleanliness

Inspect haze, transmittance, volatile contamination, sensor dust and lens adhesive residue after cure and aging.
